Track guard attendance and working hours across client locations
A guard’s hours start and end at a post. Security guard attendance tracking in TimeTapIn is a QR code at that post, a company PIN, and a recorded Start and Finish. Supervisors review those hours by guard and by site.

Post hours are often rewritten later
The shift happened at the client. The timesheet is often a book in the drawer or a call to the control room.
The site book stays at the post
A paper log at reception is useful on the night and awkward at the end of the month, when someone has to collect or photograph it.
Start times are phoned in
A call or a message can confirm that a guard arrived, then disappear before the hours are prepared.
Two posts in one week get mixed
When a guard covers different client locations, both sets of hours need to stay on the right post.
How a post clock-in works
This records attendance at the post. It does not follow a patrol, log incidents, or warn you that a post is empty.
Display a unique QR code at the post
Add each client location. Print that site’s code and leave it where the guard starts the shift.
The guard scans and enters their company PIN
They use a phone camera. There is no guard app to install and no account for them to create.
They select Start or Finish
Start records the beginning of attendance at that post. Finish records the end. The hours belong to that site.
A supervisor reviews the hours
Look at attendance by guard and by location. Correct a missed finish if needed, then export a site-based Excel report for payroll preparation.
What is included for a security company
You get recorded start and finish times and the hours at each site. You do not get patrol monitoring, incident reports, continuous GPS tracking, or an alert when a post is uncovered.
A code at each fixed post
Each client location has its own QR code. A guard who works two posts scans the code at each one.
No guard app
Check-in is a phone camera, a company PIN, and Start or Finish.
Optional location check at clock-in
Location verification is optional per site. When you enable it, the phone’s location is checked at check-in and check-out. The phone is not tracked between those taps.
Supervisors can correct a record
If Finish was missed, review the attendance and correct the time so the hours are still usable.
Site hours for payroll preparation
Export Excel reports organized by site. TimeTapIn does not pay guards or file taxes.
A 30-day free pilot
A new company account includes a 30-day free pilot. Put a code at one post, share company PINs, and review real start and finish times before you continue.
Illustrative example
A reception post on a night shift
Picture a guard assigned to a client reception. The QR code is at that post. At the start of the shift they scan it, enter their company PIN, and select Start. At the end they select Finish. A supervisor sees the attendance and the hours for that location and can correct the finish if it was missed. The record does not show a patrol route, does not log an incident, and does not send an alert if the post is later uncovered.
Questions security companies ask
Do guards need to install an app?
No. They scan the post QR code with a phone camera, enter their company PIN, and select Start or Finish.
Can I track guards at more than one client location?
Yes. Each location has its own QR code, so hours stay on the post where the guard scanned.
Does this monitor patrols or send a coverage alert?
No. TimeTapIn records Start and Finish at the site QR code. It does not monitor patrols, log incidents, track a phone continuously, or alert you if a post is empty.
Can I check the phone’s location?
Only if you turn on location verification for that site. The check runs at check-in and check-out. It is optional, and it is not continuous GPS tracking.
What if a guard forgets to finish?
A supervisor can review the record and correct the time. A check-in still does not prove the guard remained at the post for the whole interval.
Can we export hours for payroll?
Yes. Export site-based Excel reports of working hours to prepare payroll. TimeTapIn does not pay wages or file taxes.
